25 Days of Christmas Movies - Day 22 - Meet Me In St. Louis
For Day 22 of 25 Days
of Christmas Movies I had to pick Meet
Me In St. Louis (1944) starring Judy Garland. It’s probably not generally
regarded as a Christmas movie. The main story is about the upcoming 1904 World’s
Fair and the family’s eminent move to New York. But there is a gorgeous
Christmas ball toward the end, and Judy Garland introduced the world to one of
the most popular holiday tunes ever, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.
There is something so joyful and exuberant about the heyday
of Hollywood movie musicals. Sure, it’s weird that people burst into song about
trolleys and such, but they’re just so much fun and Judy Garland is never
better.
Note: Vincent Minnelli directed the film. He and Judy
Garland met on set and later married. They had a daughter, Liza Minnelli.
You may have heard of her.
