For Day 10 of 25 Days of Christmas Movies I chose a classic comedy, Trading Places (1983). I can’t even believe I just typed
1983!!!! That’s not possible. This one
makes me laugh just thinking about it. Two bored, billionaire brothers
(Ralph Bellamy & Don Ameche) make a bet to prove whether a person is born a
certain way or if their environment shapes them. To do this they take a poor, street hustler (Eddie Murphy) and have him “trade places” with a privileged, rich guy (Dan Aykroyd) during Christmas time.
This movie came out right after 48 Hours and made Eddie
Murphy a true movie star. This was back when he made awesome movies. Dan
Aykroyd is comic brilliance, too. The entire second half where the two guys
decide to get back at the rich dudes and stage an elaborate scheme to make them
poor is a…ma…zing. Two comic geniuses at the top of their game.
